Creative Bookstagram Captions For Your Next Post
Do you ever struggle with captions for your bookstagram account? I know I do. You’d think the longer you do this, the easier it becomes, right? And lots of times that’s definitely the case. But also, the longer you do something, the more repetitive it can feel, so at times, it doesn’t necessarily feel easy. It just feels the same. And that can sometimes feel demotivating and boring.
A few months back I got to this place where I felt like I was asking the same question over and over again. And I wasn’t necessarily excited about my next post which is no fun, especially when that’s the bulk of your day to day activities. So, I became determined to keep things fresh and new, even if that took a little bit of extra effort. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I still reuse content, and it’s hard not to ask your community, “what are you reading this weekend?!” every once in a while.
But for everything in between that my goal is to be excited about what I’m sharing and finding fresh ideas that resonate with me along the way. And here are a bunch I really love and have used in the past, and also some I haven’t had a chance to yet. I hope they help inspire your next post.
Here are over 150 creative caption ideas for your bookstagram account!

Questions of the Day (QOTD)
This is probably the top caption idea I use. No matter what I’m posting about, I’ll try my best to ask a “question of the day” to encourage engagement with my community. I always try to answer my own question, too. The way I have my grid set up, every other photo is a book aesthetic picture. For these posts, in particular, creative caption ideas, especially QOTDs, definitely come in handy!
Here are 140 “Question of the Day” ideas. Definitely put your own personal touch on them!

Book & Series Reviews
Probably my second most used caption is a book review. And thankfully that’s one that’s different every time because you typically don’t review the same book twice! Reviews can be short and sweet, with bullet points, or just your overall feelings about the book. There’s really no wrong way to do it. I love combining my overall feelings with a “Read This If You Like” bulleted section that shows some of the main themes and tropes in the book. It’s a quick, at-a-glance look at the story that definitely stands out.

Monthly Hopefuls & Wrap-Ups
Another book stack idea, too! Highlight the books you’d love to get to soon or that particular month. When the month is over, highlight all the books you got to read in a unique way. If it’s halfway through the year, round up your favorites so far. If it’s yearend, round up your favorites — either by genre or based on your ratings. However you like - that’s the beauty of reading and creating. Do it your way!
Hashtags
Hashtags, in general, are another great way to get inspired, especially when it’s a hashtag (or book tag) challenge.
Here are some “currently reading” related hashtags, but there are endless possibilities!
#lastnownext // #lastnownextreads
#whatthisweek - I love this challenge where you share what you’re reading, watching, and listening to this week. Check out my latest one here.
Or try ones associated with the days of the week!
#mapmonday or #minimalistmonday - Share one of your favorite book maps or a photo with minimal flare, basically no caption, just books and the mood — just post it, no stress!
#twofortuesday - Share two books related to each other somehow. Recently, I shared two books that released on the same day. I’ve also shared two books that I had recently read, but after reading, wondered why I hadn’t read them sooner. It can be anything you want. Get creative! I’ve also seen two books by the same author.
#wednesdaywisdom - A great time to share some of your favorite quotes. I’ve been seeing these posts alot lately! Here are a couple of my favorite ones by @collectivelykins_reads and @carly.simone.
#thrillerthursday // #throwbookthursday - Share a favorite thriller (or a stack!) or an oldie, but goodie book you love.
#flatlayfriday - Share a flatlay photo today!
#bookstacksaturday - I love this one. Share any kind of stack on Saturdays!
#shelfiesunday - Show us your bookshelf!
Check out this one — #RelationshipStoryStack — that I also turned into blog content — Book Tag: #RelationshipStoryStack.
Game Captions
Here are a few examples I’ve used in the past.
This or That — Reading Preferences (I chose reading preferences but it could be anything!)
Predictive Text — When I read I transform into _______
Battery Percentage — This is where you say something like, “based on your battery percentage, your book boyfriend is…” and then you list battery percent ranges and corresponding book boyfriends (or whatever it is). It’s always fun!
First Lines — Help me pick my next read based on the first line!
Meet The Bookstagrammer
Periodically, it’s fun to do a Meet The Bookstagrammer post where you introduce yourself. There’s so many ways you can do this — list a few random facts about you, mention why you got started on bookstagram in the first place, share what got you into reading, your favorite author or maybe a book you always recommend. You can’t go wrong! Here are a few of my past ones. I’m due for a new one soon!
2021 Meet The Bookstagrammer | I pulled some content from my about page and gave a little background about my blog and what I do outside of reading and bookstagram!
2020 Meet The Bookstagrammer | I rounded up some random things about me, some book related, some not, and put them in bulleted form.
Other Ideas
Do you have a blog? Promote one of your posts.
Do you have some bookish merch you love? Show it off!
How about special editions or book subscriptions? Spotlight those.
Have a home library? Let’s see it! #shelfie
Participate in a monthly posting challenge. Some accounts create daily prompts every month to help inspire content. Here’s an example I came across recently!
Celebrate a new release’s publication date.
National Days like World Book Day, Independent Bookstore Day, or Tolkien Reading Day are other great ways to focus your content (check out these calendars).
