5 Romantic Suspense Series To Add To Your TBR Today

Lately I’ve been loving romances with a bit more oomph. A bit more passion. A bit more angst. A bit more drama and conflict! Something that’s gripping and endlessly holds my attention. Romantic suspense is any genre of romance that features a prominent mystery, suspense or thriller element. It’s a subgenre that I’ve always loved, but not one that I’ve sought after in the longest time, until recently. I got really caught up on the romantic comedy train!

This month, I thought I’d showcase some of these particular subgenres of romance that I’m especially drawn to! Later you can expect a highlight on dark romance, rustic small-town romances, and two of my most favorite romance tropes second-chance and friends-to-lovers. But first, I wanted to explore the subgenre of romantic suspense. They are some great standalone and interconnected series out there that you can get lost in!

Here are 5 romantic suspense series to add to your to-be-read list today. Click on any book cover to be taken to Goodreads, tap the “Add On Kindle Unlimited” button where applicable, and shop all books later in this post.

1 // The Edens Series by Devney Perry

Interconnected standalones that follow The Edens in the small town of Quincy, Montana. I believe, technically, only book 1 is considered romantic suspense, but all I’ve ever seen is people rave and rave and rave about this entire series. Each book follows a different couple and carries slightly different romance tropes from second-chance, forced proximity, and grumpy x sunshine to single-parent and fake dating relationships. Currently, there are 4 books out including one prequel novella with a fifth full length novel on the way and set to release in September later this year. I’ve had Indigo Ridge, book 1, downloaded on kindle unlimited for quite a while! I’m hoping this year is the year. Devney Perry is one of my new-to-me-authors (a category in my yearly reading goals >> check out My Reading Goals for 2023 here!) that I want to read before 2023 is over. Fingers crossed!

2 // The Ravenhood Series by Kate Stewart

A chronological series that follows Cecelia and her boys of a the summer and beyond. This Robin-Hood-esque, mafia-like romance is all-consuming, addictive, angsty, and wholly passionate. The underlying thriller and suspense element includes secret societies, hacking, revenge, and modern-day Robin Hood vibes. You can also expect themes and tropes like star-crossed lovers, found family, brotherly love, mutual pining, secrets, hate to love, and heartbreak x healing. My heart will always live in Flock. There’s nothing like the feel of that first book in this series. Nothing. Exodus will break you. And The Finish Line will knit it all back together. The romance is a cross between a reverse harem and a polyamorous romance. I’ve also heard it refered to as a love knot, and honestly, that’s the best description for it!

3 // Knockemout Series by Lucy Score

Another interconnected series following the Morgan brothers in Knockemout, Virginia. Things We Never Got Over, book 1 in the series, is the only book available at the moment. There’s a small town feel with a grumpy x sunshine romance, evil twins, single parenting, and a little bit of mystery. Things We Hide From The Light is actually releasing in the upcoming week on February 21st, so there won’t be long to wait if you start this series now. Book 3, Things We Left Behind, is set to release later this year in early September.

4 // Lost & Found Series by Catherine Cowles

A new series coming in 2023! Each book follows a different couple, has a small-town feel, and of course, a suspense element that’s unique to each storyline. In book 1, Whispers of You, our main characters experience tragedy and when our MMC (male main character) returns home, not everyone is happy that he’s back. You can expect other tropes like forced proximity, second-chance, childhood friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend, heroine in hiding, single parent, and grumpy x sunshine. The next 4 books are set to release every 2-3 months from now until February 2024.

5 // Burying Water Series by K.A. Tucker

I love K.A Tucker and I am stoked that she has a romantic suspense series! Each book follows a different couple who are brought together during unique circumstances that unfold into a suspenseful mystery. There’s missing memory, hidden heros, amnesia, undercover agents, a hero who doesn’t want to be found, a robbery gone wrong, and enigmatic strangers. Like I said, I LOVE K.A. Tucker and am really excited to check out some of her earlier work!

Do you enjoy romantic suspense novels? What’s one that you would recommend?

Now that I’ve put this series blog together, I think I definitely want to round up standalones in this subgenre as well! Expect that in the near future!
