My 2022 Mantra

I’m still in a little shock over the fact that it’s 2022! How are doing/dealing with that?! We’re just over a week in, too. Do you typically set resolutions or do any of those “new year” sorts of things? I always LOVE the idea of them, but I’ve never actually been one to do them, at least regularly or consistently.

And I’ve therefore not really been into the whole “word of the year” new year trend either, or even “mantra of the year”. Not really sure why… I think the prospect of selecting ONE word or even a phrase that will represent my entire year seems… daunting. And not only that, but SO MUCH can happen and change in a year that I feel like your word or mantra could inadvertently shift or transform.

But, regardless, this year I was drawn to an Instagram post that depicted what looked to be a word puzzle and above the little square of jumbled-up letters was something like this - “The first four words you see will be your mantra for 2022”. That in and of itself compelled me to look hard at these letters to see what words my brain saw first. To intuitively SEE or FIND what my words of the year would be has a different sort of ring to it and outlook for me - it’s almost like fate or manifestation or a meant-to-be kind of thing. THAT definitely speaks to my soul. And let me tell you - the words I found felt magical and RIGHT and I am here for that.

So, I thought it’d be fun to start the year with a blog going through each word and kind of journaling what the word means to me, how it might apply to my life in 2022, and what I feel the 4 words mean for me together overall. And then, maybe, at the end of 2022, I can look back and see how these words - how this mantra - really did apply to my life this year. Yes, I may have just become an official “mantra of the year” kind of person! LOL. But anyway - let’s review my 4 words, and mantra, of the year!

Gratitude

GRAT · I · TUDE | noun

  1. the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

So, the first word my brain saw was G R A T I T U D E. That really drew me in and had me searching for my next word! It definitely took a second to find the next one… but I’m getting ahead of myself! First, let’s talk G R A T I T U D E. This is definitely something I can always use more of in my life. I find that with gratitude comes patience and slowing down and appreciating. All of that also seems to culminate into taking a step back, taking a breath, and connecting - with how I’m feeling, what matters most, and provides perspective and grounding.

G R A T I T U D E also reminds me to remember. Remembering to appreciate and to be thankful, for what I have, the people in my life, the opportunities I’m granted, where I am today vs. where I was a few years ago. In our fast-paced, instant gratification, and online world, it’s easy to get caught up in the race for everything and want of everything and forget what it is we have right in front of us in the here and now. I’m glad this was my first word and I hope to find and have more G R A T I T U D E in the coming year. Maybe just by doing things for me or my way, writing down specific things I’m grateful for every day, having quiet time, or just a moment of peace, of just existing - not building something, not working on my next project, not trying to keep myself busy or being creative, but just *being* in the present. Probably with some coffee and a view of nature. Yes, I’m quite looking forward to having G R A T I T U D E as part of my 2022 mantra.

Miracle

M I R · A · C L E | noun

  1. a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency

  2. a highly improbable or extraordinary event, development, or accomplishment that brings very welcome consequences.

This one hit me in a powerful way. Most particularly from the standpoint of having a baby. It’s officially been 4 years since my husband and I started trying to conceive. I’d just turned 30 and we were both finally ready to give it a go. I was convinced back then that it would be easy for us, that we’d have little to no trouble getting pregnant after we actively started trying. Unfortunately, that just hasn’t been our journey. To have M I R A C L E be the second word I found was equal parts exhilarating, shocking and exciting, and also terrifying. I felt happiness and hope and wonder when I saw it. I’m hopeful for what it could mean, but also really interested to see how this might play out in the year.

Breakthrough

B R E A K · T H R O U G H | noun

  1. a sudden, dramatic, and important discovery or development.

  2. an instance of achieving success in a particular sphere or activity.

These words just kept on punching. This one felt mighty and powerful and hopeful. It feels like it relates to M I R A C L E, but I can also see B R E A K T H R O U G H relating to my work and new career path - being a freelance creative and book blogger. Like maybe 2022 will be my so-called “big break” or I’ll see a dramatic shift in results and all the effort I’ve been putting into my blog and social platforms, specifically from an opportunity and income perspective! I’m greatly looking forward to what B R E A K T H R O U G H could mean. I’m curious to see if it’ll also relate to my low-key effort as an author and writer, too. I find that I have moments of clarity in my writing and make significant progress, but that doesn’t seem to be consistent - definitely not an everyday kind of thing by any means, maybe every few to six months. Either way, I’m excited to have B R E A K T H R O U G H in my 2022 mantra lineup!

Creation

C R E · A · T I O N | noun

  1. the action or process of bringing something into existence.

C R E A T I O N just feels appropriate and natural in my case. C R E A T I N G has always brought me joy - from writing to photography to graphic design and more. If I’m C R E A T I N G, I am happy. And now that that’s my full-time job basically - creating content whether it’s designing a blog or Pinterest graphic, writing here or on an Instagram post - it feels doubly appropriate that C R E A T I O N would be in my lineup for the year. Maybe I’ll be creating something new or setting a foundation for future endeavors. Who knows! There are so many possibilities. And also coupled with M I R A C L E and B R E A K T H R O U G H, it’s hard not to see and feel baby in C R E A T I O N ‘s presence as well. But, I guess we’ll see! I’m just happy C R E A T I O N is part of my 2022 mantra.

2022 Mantra Initial Thoughts

Honestly, when I first saw all these words together, they seemed to scream B A B Y to me. And while that’s exciting, I’m not getting my hopes up too far just yet. We may still have a long way to go in that department, but we’re hopefully moving in the right direction. I’m also really looking forward to how all these words may apply to my creative work and can’t wait to see what the year brings in terms of gains and results.

I was also so intrigued and enamored by this word-finding, mantra concept that I tried it out again. My second set of 2022 words were Health, Connection, Alignment, and Love. I had my husband look at it too and his words were Gratitude, Breakthrough, Health, Money. I LOVE that we both have Gratitude and Breakthrough 💕💕

Here’s the mantra post I’m referring to if you want to try it out for yourself!

Bonus: My Word of the Year

See what this mantra has done to me - I’m actually paying attention to these things now! LOL. 😂

So, I’m *fairly* certain, my Enneagram is 2 or The Helper. In 2021, I spent a little time trying to get acquainted with who a 2 is and I think it does ultimately apply to me. I’m still learning though! In the past, I’ve also tested as a 3 and 7, and the last time I took the Enneagram test in 2021, I was almost 100% both a 2 and a 7. BUT. Regardless, I pay very particular attention to Enneagram graphics related to 2s and that’s where I found my word of the year just shortly after having found my mantra. And my word is B A L A N C E.

Check out the post below. She’s done a graphic and word for each type if you want to check yours out!

I hope you’re looking forward to the new year and have found ways to get excited and into the spirit of new beginnings. I’m certainly looking forward to what’s to come.
