The Best Fantasy Romance Books on Kindle Unlimited

Fantasy Romance Books on Kindle Unlimited

So what exactly is Fantasy Romance you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s basically what happens when your favorite fantasy book meets your favorite romance book. These are my two favorite genres, so when they collide it’s just the best! You get the elements of a fantasy world with a main plotline that focuses heavily on a romantic relationship. Fantasy + Romance = Romantasy! Yup, you got it. It’s gradually gaining momentum and quickly becoming its own category and genre in the book world and beyond.

You can typically expect a high fantasy world, a major focus on a budding relationship with a fantastical being, and probably lots of smutty bits! I went on a huge Fantasy Romance kick in May and I thought it’d be fun to throw together a list of all the Fantasy Romance books and series that have caught my eye over on Kindle Unlimited! They are SO MANY options and it’s fun to get lost down a KU rabbit hole! I also polled my community over on bookstagram, so we've got a whole lot of books to cover. Are you ready?! Let’s do this.

The Best Fantasy Romance Books on Kindle Unlimited

So I’ve essentially divided all of these reads up by fantastical being, where possible. Keep in mind, I haven’t read all of these yet, so if I couldn’t easily confirm the type of fantastical creature I tried to confirm the type of fantasy world you’ll get. So you’ll also see more general categories like Paranormal or Royalty in some cases! I’ll try to come back and update as I make my way through these and see any opportunities to reclassify! If you’ve already got the lowdown, let your girl know.

A few housekeeping things: Click on the series title to head over to Goodreads to add to your TBR and find out more about each book, tap the cover if you want to check out physical copy options, and if you’re ready to add on KU, push the button labeled “Add On Kindle Unlimited”!

Okayyy, I think we’re ready. Here goes nothing.

Vampires

Charlie Travesty Series

Series Tag Line: A world ruled by vampires. A forbidden romance. A city torn apart by rebellion.

Um, yes, just based on the series tag line alone. . . gimme, gimme now. This series has been on my list since 2020. After I read From Blood and Ash, I went down a Goodreads rabbit hole trying to find similar paranormal fantasy romance stories and this was one of the first series I happened upon. I will literally take anything with vampires and these are all super quick reads (100 pages or less!). Also, can we talk about these covers?! They are seductive.

Dark Eyes Series

Vamps and witches and magic, oh my! There's hawt steam bordering on monster smut in this one and it has an intriguing backstory with an element of found family and enemies-to-lovers set in a modern yet eerie San Francisco.⁣ Black Sunshine was one of my May reads and overall, I really enjoyed it! It was originally going to be a stand-alone, but as the author was writing, she said it quickly developed into a multiple-book series. The second book, The Blood Is Love, is set to release July 1st and according to Karina, it’s “the bloody, sexy, angsty, kinky, lush & twisty sequel to Black Sunshine”. I’M READY.

Blueblood Vampires

So, my friend Danielle, @foreverbookedup, put this series on my radar and it’s basically about scandalous hot vampires at an elite school for the supernatural. And I’m just totally sold by that 😅 You can also expect a forbidden romance and protective bad boy vibes! Yes, please. Check out Danielle’s review here.

The Children of the Gods Series

Okay, listen. There are 52 books and counting in this series and I literally couldn’t put them all here or I’d never finish this blog and you’d never finish getting through this list. Okay? Okay 😂 These are just the first three. Click here to check out all the books!

My friend Krysten, @ladyofbookshire, recommended these to me. They are her weakness and she’s been reading them for yearsss! Her favorite couple is in the first 3 books. She says that every 3 books we get a new couple, but that first couple is still heavily involved in the series and gets their own POV chapters!

The Unearthly Series

The setting is an elite supernatural boarding school on the British Isles?! And there’s a king of vampires and possibly the devil himself 👀👀👀

Tempting Monsters Series

So this one definitely has vampires, but it’s also a paranormal, reverse harem, so I’m hopinggg there are other paranormal monsters. . . but for now, will leave it here!

A couple book friends, Genesis (@whipseringchapters) and Krysten (@ladyofbookshire) have already raved about this one, so I can’t wait to get to it.

Fae

Vicious Faeries

I read Hunt The Fae and Kiss The Fae in May! While I did enjoy both, this series won’t be for everyone (just like any other series on this list). But I did have a few friends mention that they struggled with the story. And I did, too, a bit - it’s a little dense and definitely slow to start and each book follows the same story structure, so it might feel a bit predictable and repetitive. I think I’ve also discovered that the whole trial trope or heroine-tasked-with-a-trial trope isn’t really my thing. BUT if you like faeries and fated mate/forbidden/enemies-to-lovers/steamy love stories and high, high fantasy, you should definitely check this one out! The smut is also delicious. Book 3 is set to release later this year.

Wrath of the Fae Series

Book 1 Tag Line: Cursed. Betrayed. Banished. Fifteen hundred years is a long time to wait to get revenge. The Fae know how to nurse a grudge, and now they have returned to England to claim their rightful place.

I keep seeing this series around and finally decided to add it to my list! It’s a fated mates romance about “cursed fae princes and the women destined to save them.” The women are fiery and the fae are villainous, soooo I’m here for it!

Onyx Trilogy

OMG THE ONYX TRILOGY. This is another one I found after I read From Blood and Ash, and it’s been sitting on my Kindle since 2020 waiting patiently for me to pick it up 😅 According to Goodreads, this story also has dragons and a dystopian, apocalyptic feel. I’m so ready for it!

The Plated Prisoner Series

Book 1 Tag Line: The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.

Another series I just started seeing all over bookstagram recently and definitely want to give it a try!! It’s also a reimagined story about the myth of King Midas. The author provides an additional content warning on Goodreads that I’m also going to leave here as well >> Please Note: This book contains explicit content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, and non-consensual sex. It is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age.”

Married To Magic Series

I adooored A Deal With The Elf King!! I actually read it in 2020 shortly after I added it on Kindle (😅) and just loved it. It’s a Beauty and The Beast / Hades and Persephone retelling with elves, magic, and a happily ever after. It’s essentially a stand-alone, but there will be other stories in this universe! The romance is a somewhat steamy and definitely slow burn. It’s a very quick read!

Entangled With Fae Series

Book 1 Tag Line: A beastly fae king with a deadly curse. A devious bargain to break it…

I’m always in the mood for a good Beauty and The Beast retelling! It was my favorite fairy tale growing up. AND. It looks like there will be different fairy tale retellings in this series! Here for it.

The Bargainer Series

This was yet another series I found after I read From Blood and Ash! I read book 1 in 2020 and still have a ways to go on the series, but it’s a Hades and Persephone Retelling and it puuuulled at all of my heartstrings!! I can’t wait to continue the series.

Heart of the Fae Duology

Which is also a part of The Otherworld Series. It looks like each book or 2 will be a fairy tale retelling with an Irish mythology twist! I’ve heard great things about the first 2 books, which is, you guessed it, the Beauty and The Beast retelling. I’m starting there and will see how it goes!

Darling, There Are Wolves in the Woods

I believe this series will also be called The Wicked Woods Chronicles, but that’s not quite up on Goodreads yet. @shardsofromance recommended this over on bookstagram when I polled the community there! It’s not included with KU, but I still wanted to include it because it looks good, and if you’re good with paying a couple of extra dollars for it, why not!

The Savage and the Swan

All of my friends who have read this are raving! A new adult Swan Princess Retelling that’s also inspired by Hades and Persephone and Rumpelstiltskin?! Yes, please.

Crystal Bloom Series

Please meet my new romantasy addiction and obsession! I love this book SO MUCH. It’s an adult Rapunzel reimagining with unrequited love and I am really obsessed with it! Sarah is aiming to have book 2 ready before the end of the year, fingers crossed. Check out my review and book recap on the blog here!

Honey and Ice Trilogy

I’ve been seeing this one around and have definitely been interested in it! It’s a new adult fae fantasy romance with paranormal elements.

Paranormal

in this list, we’ve got everything from witches, angels, and demons down to werewolves and zombies (WUT) and just all-around dark and gothic things.

Tales of Weeping Hollow

Hollow Heathens was another book I discovered last year as I was searching for more books like FBAA! You can definitely see what that one book did to me 😂 Hollow Heathens is a dark and gothic forbidden romance filled with essence of moonchild and alllll the Halloween vibes! Absolutely loved this book and Nicole’s writing. Book 2, Bone Island, is coming later this year!! Oh, AND. There’s a Young Adult version of Hollow Heathens if that’s more your kind of thing!

Stay A Spell Series

Another new obsession of mine! This is a paranormal fantasy romance series (rom-com style) that follows a coven of sister-witches in New Orleans as they find their meant-to-bes and happily ever afters. I ADORE this series so much. Each book follows a different sister and has a full story of it’s own with cameos from all our favorite side characters and couples!

Check out my reviews for Book 1 (Wolf Gone Wild) and Book 2 (Don’t Hex and Drive) over on my bookstagram page. Book 3’s review (Witches Get Stitches) is coming soon (I just finished and it was oh so good)!

Walking In A Witchy Wonderland is an anthology coming in October.

Side note: these are a couple extra dollars on Kindle, but TRUST ME, they are worth it!!!

The War Of Lost Hearts Series

Book 1 Tag Line: Her life for freedom. Her blood for love. Her soul for vengeance.

I just happened to see someone’s review of book 1, Daughter of No Words, on Goodreads, and they were raving about it so I knew I had to give it a shot. Plus it’s new adult and high fantasy and classified as paranormal romance. Sign. Me. Up.

The Four Horseman Series

Series Tag Line: They came to earth--Pestilence, War, Famine, Death--four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

I love Laura Thalassa and this series of hers keeps getting recommended to me! I’ve only read Rhapsodic in The Bargainer series, but I absolutely loved it and have wanted to continue not only that series but her other works as well. Book 4 will be Death, which is oddly the one I’m most interested in. Cue Jen Titus’ O’Death song from season 5 of Supernatural.

Fables + Other Lies

A standalone gothic romance with curses and maybe. . . demons?! I haven’t read it, so I can’t tell yet 😂 But my friend Danielle, @foreverbookedup, has raved about this book so I can’t wait to get to it!! Check out her review here.

The Vine Witch Series

I’ve been eyeing this series for quite some time now. I added book 1 to my Goodreads Want-To-Read list last July 😳 One year later and I still haven’t read it yet! But hopefully soon. This book has witches, romance, wine, and more.

The Curse of the Lycan Series

Hmmkay, this series I want to read ASAP. These covers ARE TO DIE FOR and we’ve got more werewolves and shapeshifting. Let’s do this.

Friends with the Monsters Series

Okay, so this is another series I want to read ASAP 😂 I mean that first cover. . . come on. . . gimme, gimme. This is another reverse harem with shapeshifting and dark and supernatural vibes 👀 Content Warning from Goodreads: MFMM Reverse Harem novel with adult themes not recommended for those under 18. [JUNE ‘21 UPDATE: I finished this duology and overall really liked it! Book 1 started out SO STRONG for me. I looooved the dark, paranormal, and sexy vibe and honestly, probably could have stayed cooped up in Dami’s house and at her local hunting spot the whole time. I didn’t really need the underlying plotline, necessarily, although that was interesting. I feel like with a MFMM coupling, there needed to be more time spent just there and maybe there could have been more books? I was left feeling like I just wanted MORE out of the duology - more of Dami, more of the boys, and more of the smut! And I think while the covers are stunning, are a bit misleading.]

Juniper Unraveling Series

Here come the zombies!!! I typically obsess over the whole zombie trope but never have I ever had it in a fantasy romance before. . . 👀. . . so I am quite curious about all this. This series is also classified as a dark, dystopian, sci-fi romance. Content Warning from Goodreads: This book contains explicit sexual content, and violent scenes that some readers may find disturbing. Keri Lake also has a few contemporary dark romances that I want to get to including Master of Salt & Bones as well as The Isle of Sin & Shadows!

The Yaga’s Riders Series

Reverse harems and witches, oh my. I just happened upon this author’s page on Instagram and saw witches and steamy romance and had to find out more! The author provides a few warnings about these books/the series on Goodreads:

**WARNING THIS BOOK CONTAINS A CLIFFHANGER** It is also RH, with multiple POV, unusual spicy smex, and a focus on romance (including MM) and body positivity. If any of those things don't work for you, please don't read it! This series is meant for readers 18 and over. Possible triggers: sweary dialogue, graphic sex, including kink and various edgeplay, gore and violence, reference to past sexual assault and pregnancy loss, general weirdness and medium-dark elements.”

A Witch Out Of Time is coming June 27th and it looks like there will also be a book 3, Call of the Ride, coming November 1, 2021! [JUNE ‘21 UPDATE: I read book 1 AND LOVED IT.]

Ada Palomino Series

Another one not included with Kindle Unlimited, BUT it’s by the same author as Black Sunshine so I am all for it! Also, these covers are drooooooooooool worthy. This is an urban paranormal, new adult series with demons, ghosts, and an element of horror. I’m readyyyy.

The Fallen World Series

A dystopian, apocalyptic world with a new adult romance by Laura Thalassa?! Sign me up. And I’m loving these covers so much!!

The Demon Queen Trials

More demons! And other paranormal elements, I think, with spice and it’s new adult!! According to Laura Thalassa, if you love her books, you’re going to love these, so I am 100% sold!

Mythology, Royalty & Dragons

Hades x Persephone Series & Hades Saga

I am so obsessed with this series! This is probably my favorite Hades and Persephone retelling maybe ever. It has an urban and modern feel while still being mythic and magical. And it’s steamy! Okay and. The reading order is always a huge question.

So, technically, the “A Touch of’s” are Persephone’s POV and should be read first. The “A Game of’s” are from Hades’ POV and are best read right after Persephone’s POV of the same story.

However, not all of these are out yet! A Touch of Darkness, A Game of Fate, A Touch of Ruin, and A Touch of Malice are all currently published and available.

The next release in this series is A Game of Retribution and is Hades POV of A Touch of Ruin. So you can read A Touch of Malice before A Game of Retribution comes out.

A Game of Gods and A Touch of Chaos will both be released in 2022!

Their Dark Valkyrie Series

Book 1 Tagline: The gods walk among us. And they just might steal your soul... or your heart. Claimed By Gods is the first full-length novel in a medium-burn reverse harem urban fantasy series. This action-packed, heart-wrenching ride gives you a kickass heroine, four irresistible gods, and Norse mythology like you've never seen it before.

This is another series that I’m sort of already obsessed with just because of the covers, especially book 1’s! And a paranormal, urban fantasy with Norse mythology and a reverse harem? I’ll take it!!

Cruel Beauty

This was another recommendation by @shardsofromance over on Bookstagram. My book friend Meg (@franklybookish) also recently read this and said it was completely unexpected and she really enjoyed it. It looks to be a Beauty and the Beast retelling coupled with Greek mythology! That has me veryyy intrigued. This one is also a bit of extra dollars on Kindle!

Darkest Drae Series

What is it with me and book 1 covers?! 😂 Ooh and this is a dragon shifter new adult romance!

Fantasyland Series

My friend Krysten swears by this series!! It’s new adult with dragon shifters and I can’t wait to get to it. It’s a few extra dollars on KU, but the Lady of Bookshire loves it, so I think you should go for it!

Got any juicy, steamy, must-read romantasy recommendations on Kindle Unlimited that the world needs to know about and should absolutely be on this list???

Let me know in the comments so I can add them here! Happy reading!!

Book Review: The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout
